If you didn’t already know, there are two main types of newborn photography; posed and lifestyle.
Posed newborn sessions typically happen in a studio with artificial light and lots of newborn sized props like buckets, baskets, and headbands. Baby will often be wrapped in fabric or posed in the nude on a studio set or blanketed posing table. There may be packages you can choose from so you know what is included in your session. Some packages may only include baby and a certain number of sets, poses or wraps. Other packages may include siblings or parents, sometimes at an extra charge.

Lifestyle session happen in your home, not on a “set” and don’t require a lot of props. Now, if you would like to include a personal momento I would love to include it in your session, but not everyone does. They also include all household family members. I personally also include the option (no extra charge) to wrap baby in a swaddle for some shots, including some of baby by themselves.
I find that wrapping baby helps calm them and may even help them fall asleep. But even if they don’t drift off, at least their flailing arms and legs will be contained and I can get shots of them on their own in a peaceful state.

Some benefits of having an In Home Lifestyle Newborn Session are:
-convenience, everything you need is there, I know how stressful it can be to pack up to go somewhere with a new baby.
-nostalgic. Imagine looking through newborn photos taken in the house you brought baby home to when that baby is all gown up. They will get to see the living room you spent so much time with them in and their room when it was a brand new nursery.
-pets get to be included! Your fur baby is part of your family too and I love it when I get to include them in the session
